July 8 - Blue Jays' Scottish Heritage Night

July 10 - Summer Dancing at Trinity

Breezy Seeley Hall tonight welcomes everyone's favourite PDA (Personal Dance Assistant) Donalda McDonald. Batteries are not included -- but you can expect lots of energy in the room as Donalda crisply leads us through her always-interesting programme. 8:00pm at Trinity College, U of T. July 14-19 - Orillia Scottish Festival Youth Day Camp

Linda Ashe Argent is running a summer Day Camp for youngsters. She says: "Would you like to learn how to Scottish Country Dance and perform at the Orillia Scottish Festival? Then this summer camp is for you!!! Camp participants will be taught all forms of movement relating to Scottish Country Dancing and at the end of the five-day summer camp will have learnt three Scottish Country dances. A Scottish Jig, a Strathspey and a Reel." Then they will demo the dances at the Opening Ceremonies of the Orillia Scottish Festival, Saturday, July 19th, 2008. July 14 - Summer Dancing at Oshawa

Fresh from her triumph at Trinity, the irrepressible Donalda McDonald shares her sharp wit and crisp instruction with the lucky denizens of Fernhill Community Centre in Oshawa. Join Maureen Remington and friends Monday evenings through the summer at this blissfully air-conditioned venue. 7:30 - 9:30pm. Great treats at the interval. Download brochure and map for more info.

July 17 - Summer Dancing at Trinity

Toronto dancers don't often get to experience the unique and precise teaching of Brampton's Paul Maloney but Paul's leading us tonight at Trinity. Paul has a knack of choosing dances that are not only fun, but which have a significant history. What better place to share this heritage than in beautiful, historic Seeley Hall? 8:00pm at Trinity College, U of T. More info on the Trinity website.

July 19 - Orillia Scottish Festival- Opening Ceremonies

Dancers of all ages are needed to join in the mass dancing of the opening ceremonies at 1pm. Sign up as a full set representing your Social Group, or come on your own and be matched up to form sets. We'll demo three very simple dances. Full sets (8 dancers) representing a group will receive a small honorarium. Contact Linda Ashe Argent 705-487-5866 for more info and cribs.

Aug 10 - 17 - TAC Summer School

36th annual Teachers' Association of Canada Summer School at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo. This event is not just for teachers, nor do you have to book all aspects of the programme. You can pick and choose, to some extent, the extent of your participation. Download the brochure. Also, visit the TAC website for more information and Registration Form. Aug 11 - 15 - Seniors Jubilee

An amazing collection of acts and talents. Sparkling variety, from ballroom to vaudeville, comedy to cabaret, the Jubilee has it all. This celebrated annual senior's showcase features over 1,300 performers, age 50+ from across Ontario. With talent to spare, these shows are superbly entertaining! Of course, there WILL be Scottish Country dancing on stage! However, the performance line-up changes from day to day so if you don't want to miss the SCD, check with your friends who will be dancing. Stewart Bennet of Highlands of Durham might be a good source, since his singing group, Claidmore, usually perform. At Roy Thomson Hall 416-872-4255, afternoons only. Tickets are $19.50 - $44.50.

Nov 8 - Toronto Workshop

Join us for our annual Toronto Workshop on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Toronto French School. As in past years, the day will consist of 3 workshops and a group class in addition to the evening dance. There will be vendors to entice you, a wonderful lunch and your ticket includes admission the November Monthly Dance that evening at Crescent School. Our teachers this year will be Fiona Grant from Bristol, Claire Collier from Lewiston, NY, and Fiona Philip from Toronto. Music will be provided by a triad of wonderful musicians: Bobby & Laird Brown and Don Bartlett. Mark November 8 on your calendar and watch for additional information and the registration form which will be available shortly.

July 20 - Aug 17 - Summer School at St Andrews, Scotland

Each summer folk from all around the world gather at the beautiful seaside university town of St Andrews to improve their Scottish Country dance technique. Dancers stay in university residences and are offered a varied programme of instruction. The teachers and musicians are world class - so is the fun. Applications for Summer School are available on the RSCDS Headquarters website. A range of scholarships is available, particularly (but not exclusively) for young people. Scholarships must be supported by a nominee and supporter and a letter of recommendation from a Branch. Deadline for applications for scholarships is Feb. 22, 2008. For more information contact Brenda Hurst 416-925-6982.

Sept 19 - 21 - Scottish Weekend -- West Virginia

Scottish Weekend, Inc. emphasizes the best in live music, fine teaching, good food, and "controlled abandon." We begin Friday night with supper and a welcome dance. Two morning classes and one in the afternoon are offered on Saturday, followed by time to relax, swim in the pool, shop for Scottish goods, have a massage, and socialize. That evening, our piper leads us from our cabins to an elegant full-dress ball. After another class on Sunday morning, all participants gather for the popular combined class, then lunch and farewells until next year. There will be a ceilidh after the Ball on Saturday. $225 per dancer. For more info, visit our website.

Sept 30 - A Canadian Welcome to Colin Dewar and His SCD Band -- London, ON

October 3-5 - Ottawa Valley Dance Scottish - Workshop & Ball

Join us in Ottawa for a dance event sure to be a memorable weekend! Mark your calendar and come enjoy the spectacular fall colours in Ottawa. Guest teachers are Ruth Jappy (Delta, BC) and Helen & Malcolm Brown (York, England). Music will be by Colin Dewar and his SCD Band (Stirling, Scotland).

The weekend kicks off with a Welcome dance Friday evening, with a mix of SCD and some Old Time Dancing with Ruth Jappy. Saturday there will be three class levels to choose from; basic, intermediate and advanced. Saturday evening will feature a Gala dinner and dance to the lively music of Colin and his Band. Sunday morning we will join for a combined class followed by lunch. Teachers will have a chance to get together in the afternoon for a class of their own.

All events will be held at Ashbury College, a private boarding school in the beautiful Rockcliffe neighbourhood of Ottawa, just minutes away from the Parliament Buildings and Governor General's Residence.

October 3-5 - Saskatchewan Branch Annual Workshop - Manitou Beach

The Annual Saskatchewan Branch Workshop will be at Manitou Beach (1 hr east of Saskatoon). Guests are recommended to stay at the beautiful Manitou Springs Resort and Mineral Spa, a modern 102-room hotel attached to a mineral water spa. We will dance at spacious, historic Danceland, a lakeside pavilion built in 1923. The floor is perhaps the last remaining horsehair-sprung dancefloor in Canada. Dancing on this 5000 sq ft surface is a joy. One look and you'll want to join us for the weekend. Teachers are Elinor Vandegrift from Washington state and John Middleton from Hamilton, Ontario. December 28 2008 - Jan 5 2009 - New Zealand Branch Summer School
